Safety & Access
Your building will need to accommodate:
• people carrying loads
• parents carrying children
• pregnant partners
• those with temporary injuries
• people with sight & hearing problems
• people with aids, eg wheelchairs
we all become 'disabled ' one time or another
so design obstacles out if you can, and design
safety in.
Your building needs:
• to be structurally sound - you may need an engineer to provide calculations & specifications
• to be provided with quick and easy exits in fire
• have safe maintenance & cleaning access
• to be without hazards to build
• security considered at an early stage
You will need:
• to store your means of transport: bike or car, child buggy or motorbike. • how will you reach the shops, the pub, your friends, how will you get home again - make it easy and low-energy if possible. • maybe you will need a car charge point in the future, a water store, an energy store, how are they accessed and supplied or serviced.
